Last week, Lotus unveiled what they are calling the world’s first, fully-electric Hyper-SUV, named the Eletre – a big statement from a company known for its small and super-light sportscars! But, have Lotus designed something that the likes of Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin should be worried about?
Well, it is expected to arrive next year, and although not confirmed yet; Lotus are targeting some serious performance figures from their first ever SUV:

  • Power Range Starting at 600bhp.
  • 0-62mph in 2.9 Seconds.
  • Top Speed Expected to be Over 160mph.
  • Price Expected to Start Around £100k.
  • Max Range of approx. 350 Miles on a Single Charge.

Some pretty impressive statistics from a big car which has an almost identical footprint to the Lamborghini Urus and will cost less than half the price. But if the Eletre isn’t quite fast enough to tempt you away from the DBX 707 just yet, Lotus has an even faster, 900bhp version in the pipeline too…

The Eletre, which means ‘coming to life’ in Hungarian, will have four-wheel drive as standard on all versions, a super high-tech interior and this aggressive-looking, futuristic exterior which will even have active-aero dynamic components. On top of this, carbon ceramic brakes and rear-wheel steering will be included on the options list ready for them track days in your electric SUV. Overall however, the Eletre looks exactly how you would expect a luxury, fully electric SUV to look and seems to pull it off pretty well!

With a brand which was built on Colin Chapman’s philosophy of ‘simplify, then add lightness’ that is now planning on building a large, high-tech SUV may not sit right with everyone, but is Lotus not doing what they always have done – taking on the big boys at a more affordable price?
