The origins of the Company go back to when Bruce McLaren moved from his home of Auckland, New Zealand to the UK in 1958, founding Bruce McLaren Motor Racing a few years later. Bruce was a driver and engineer, he raced, as did most Grand Prix drivers of this time, in sports cars, Grand Touring cars and more humble saloon cars alongside his commitments to Cooper in Formula 1. He drove for Jaguar, Aston Martin and Ford with whom he won the Le Mans 24 hours in 1966. 1964 when Bruce McLaren and his small team built the first true McLaren sports car – the M1A – which became a top contender in sports car racing both in Europe and America. 1967, saw the start of one of the most dominant episodes in motor sport history. Between 1967 and 1971 the works McLarens won 37 of the 43 races including 19 one-twos. Such dominance won many admirers and many sales of racing sports cars and, just occasionally a customer car won too. Over the duration of the Can-Am series McLaren was the dominant victor with 43 victories, almost three times more than its closest competitor Porsche.
Most recently, the company introduced its all-new high-performance hybrid supercar, the McLaren Artura. The Artura is the first McLaren to benefit from the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). The MCLA is designed, developed and manufactured at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre in the Sheffield region of England using world-first processes and will spearhead the brand’s electrified future.

How much does it cost to insure a McLaren?
There is no set amount, McLaren premiums will vary depending on factors such as the driver, the location where the vehicle is kept, security measures, usage and value.
How do I reduce the cost of McLaren insurance?
Drivers who are older, drive less miles per year and have more experience of driving supercars generally attract lower premiums. Enhanced security measures such as approved trackers and immobilisers along with secure parking also reduce premiums. These measures may also be mandatory to arrange insurance.
Do I need a full No Claims Discount (NCD) to insure a supercar?
No, you can get discounts based on your driving experience, what cars you have driven and for how long.
Can I take my McLaren overseas to drive?
In most cases the cover we arrange for supercars allows for vehicles to be driven in Europe on a temporary basis such as holidays. This is know as “Green Card” Cover.

How old do I need to be to insure a McLaren?
There is no set age to be insured on a Lamborghini, driving experience and claims history are also very important factors. It is however more difficult to insure a super car if you are younger than 25 years old.
Can I insure a supercar temporarily?
If the car is being imported to the UK for a fixed period (usually months) then yes. If it’s being imported permanently you need a VIN number (UK registration) from the DVLA before you can insure the car.
